The ten finalists this year are a lucky bunch. They can also win aside from the above, Sony walkman mp3 players, Sony IC recorders and stuff and goodies from Ajinomoto and Yakult. Not to forget, they can also win free Nihongo lessons from the Nihongo Center Foundation, lessons from the Center for Pop Music and HERO TV will be giving a “Hero’s Choice” award.

    1. “himitsu” and “himitsu heiki” could be different bands — we can’t be completely sure. and no, as far as i know neither “himitsu” nor “himitsu heiki” are professional bands — otherwise they would already have recording contracts and released albums.

hmm.. well too bad for the other contestant the’y can’t stand a chance if that’s himitsu heiki.
and one thing why himitsu heiki give this opportunity to the new band they’re veterans, they are pro.

    hellgirl….

    1. again, we are not sure if “himitsu” and “himitsu heiki” are the same band — please refrain from saying they are the same group over and over if you don’t have concrete proof.

also, the industry-accepted definition of “professional band” stipulates that they should have a recording contract at the very least, and widespread album releases at most.

since neither himitsu, himitsu heiki, nor all the other bands that made the final cut of the contest have either one, they are all amateur bands and therefore are competing on equal footing.

I couldn’t agree more with Ms. Rochelle. They’re not professional because: 1) they don’t have an existing contract with a record label 2) no album in the market.

They may be veterans in playing j-pop or j-rock music but nonetheless, they are still amateurs as with the other bands, good or bad, lousy or skillful, out there.

It’s not their fault if they’ve become so good at playing J-Pop or J-Rock music. They just put morehours practicing their stuff and doing the thing they love the most than the rest. Read Malcolm Gladwell’s “The Outliers” and maybe you’ll fully understand my point. Therefore, it’s not their fault if they’re above par the regular J-Pop/J-Rock group out there.

If you have the energy to be sarcastic, then maybe you have the energy and the time to hone your skills to be as good as Himitsu or Himitsu Heiki is as well.

Sorry to be blunt about this.

    @Enma Ai

If you read the results on the last contest the grand winner is a new band while “Sakura Beat” only got the 3rd spot. Yep,Sakura Beat is an old band just like Neotaku and Do Ahou.

It’s not about being old or new, anyone can be a champion.
This contest is about giving your best and up for the challenge. There will be another contest next year that’s for sure and you can join again.

About Himitsu or Himitsu Heiki. If they are the same band I think it’s time for them to join some serious competition.
Playing on events for almost 6 years without asking any “payment” is really hard, sometimes they even bring their own food. They are not pro/veterans, they are just an ordinary band who shares their talent and giving entertainment to anime and Jmusic fans out there.

And by the way, don’t let what others say like “this group’s so good, we don’t stand a chance” get to you. A defeatist attitude will get you nowhere. Whatever the result and outcome of the contest may be, what’s important is taht you have put a good fight.

i do have the list of qualifiers ranked by score, but i chose to release the list in alphabetical order to be fair to everyone.

besides, everyone enters the finals with their scores reset back to zero, so it really does not matter if you were ranked first or last in the selections…
