The Site

JPOP Manila was formerly magnetic-rose.net, a site that was and still is dedicated to all things J-pop for Philippine fans — manga, anime, music, gaming, cosplay, toys, and BL. We are currently on version 1.0 starting 1st June 2017 following a major rebrand and site overhaul.

The Affiliations

JPOP Manila is an Official Affiliate of C3 Anime Festival Asia 2017; the site has been partnering with AFA since 2009. C3AFA17 is the largest anime, cosplay, and gaming convention in the South East Asian region. C3AFASG 2017 will be held on the 24th to 26th November 2017 at the Suntec City Convention Center.

JPOP Manila is an Official Affiliate of the Singapore Toy, Games & Comic Convention 2017. This marks the 9th consecutive year that the site is affiliated with STGCC. STGCC 2017 was is scheduled for the 9th and 10th of September 2017 at the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Center in Singapore.

JPOP Manila is an Official Affiliate of the Philippines’ biggest cosplay convention Cosplay Mania 17. CM17 is organized by the largest and most relevant cosplay community in the Philippines Cosplay.PH. CM17 will be held on the 30th of September and the 1st of October 2017 at the SMX Convention Center, SM Mall of Asia Complex, Pasay City.

JPOP Manila is an Official Affiliate of Asia Pop Comic Con Manila 2017; the site has been officially recognized since 2016. APCC is one of the largest pop culture events in the Philippines, and has played host to major Hollywood luminaries and legendary Japanese creators.

The Accolades

As magnetic-rose.net, JPOP Manila was voted Best Blog at the 2013 Otaku Choice Awards organized by Pinoy Otaku Festival. JPOP Manila is also a regular contributor Singapore-based J-contents blogs WOW Japan (formerly AFA Channel) and SGCafe.

As magnetic-rose.net, JPOP Manila was a Finalist for the Culture and Arts Category – National Level of the Philippine Blog Awards 2011; magnetic-rose.net was the Philippine Blog Awards 2009 Winner for the same category, as well as a Finalist for the Reader’s Choice Award for 2009.

As magnetic-rose.net, JPOP Manila won the Animax Asia Last Exile Review Contest held in October 2011. The Last Exile Review Contest is a writing competition centered on the Gonzo anime series “Last Exile ~Fam, The Silver Wing~”. The prize is an all-expense paid trip to Tokyo, Japan to watch Animax Musix live.

As magnetic-rose.net, JPOP Manila has been granted a Special Citation by the organizers of the 2011 Akegarasu Haya Prize Essay Competition for a piece done on raising bilingual children. The 27th Akegarasu Haya Prize is organized annually by Hakusan City, the hometown of renowned Japanese thinker and educator Akegarasu Haya, to honor his remarkable achievements.

As magnetic-rose.net, JPOP Manila won the Animax Asia and Hong Kong Tourism Board’s Halloween Treats Blogging Competition for 2010. In 2009, it won the South East Asia-wide MTV Asia Blogging Competition for Games and Gadgets, where one of the prizes was a six-month writing assignment for the international music channel.

The Owner and Publisher

Rochelle has been into anime for eighteen years now. She started blogging on LiveJournal in November 2001 to distract herself from the loneliness and isolation of college life — as a JAL scholar, and subsequently an AIEJ-JASSO scholar, in Tokyo.

Rochelle moved to Singapore from Manila in May 2016 to join SOZO, the organizers of C3 Anime Festival Asia — the biggest Japanese pop culture convention circuit in South East Asia.

Rochelle likes Luna Sea, Rafael Nadal, Anthony Edward Stark, and Kingsman. Rochelle is a proud cancer survivor, a Level 2 Japanese Language Proficiency Certificate holder, a card-carrying member of the Philippine Red Cross, and supports the Philippines Reproductive Health Bill.
