Edamame Keychain Toy Toxic Jollibee Macross Robotech Toy Valkyrie

According to a very recent post on Yahoo! News, Singapore’s Ministry of Health has asked for the mass disposal of the “edamame” keychain toy due to toxic chemicals being found in the popular novelty item.

Seventeen schoolchildren suffered from nausea and other complaints after apparently playing with the toy and then taking their meals without washing their hands.

However, it was not confirmed by both the the Ministry of Health and Yahoo! News if the toys in question were the original Bandai products or imitations sourced elsewhere. This could be a crucial factor since the Japanese originals have been out on the market for some time now with no injuries reported from its use.

In local news, everyone’s favorite fast food chain Jollibee has released a line of Macross toys with their Kiddie Meals. Branded as “Robotech: Macross Saga” toys (after Carl Macek’s infamous butchering of Kawamori Shouji’s original series), the line features a VF1J Miria custom in Valkyrie mode, a VF1J Max custom in Guardian (Gerwalk) mode, and a VF1S Roy custom in Battroid mode.

For tech reviews and macro photos of the toys, you can check out Cybertron Philippines or evaguy01 on Multiply. Robotech Kiddie Meals are available in all Jollibee branches starting at PhP 69, while supplies last.

    1. if you’re getting the bandai one you’re probably safe — i think it’s the fake ones from unscrupulous chinese manufacturers that are toxic.
