Born To Make History: A Yuri!!! on ICE Fan Gathering was held last 26th March 2017 at the Bayanihan Center in Pasig City, Metro Manila. The event is comprised of talks and discussions regarding the ground breaking ice skating TV series and a dealers hall made up of both independent creators and licensed retailers.

One of the highlights of the event, and a unique addition to the con, was a live Skype Call with Russian cosplayer Barimor, who is best known for his portrayal of young Russian skater Yuri Plisetsky. Screams from his fans rocked the venue as he entertained questions and interaction with the crown in Manila from his home in Russia.

Another highlight is the presence of Indonesian artists Mizoreki and Minatu, who are renowned for their fan art of the series. On a personal note, we’ve been friends with Mizo thanks to our shared fandom in Kingsman, and we were delighted that she was able to come to Manila.

The event was a huge success — perhaps a little too successful, in our opinion. There were minor issues with the queue outside and the crowding inside, but nothing that the organizers can’t fix in succeeding events. Congratulations to the event organizers, and we hope this is the start of good things to come!
