Collectors and fans of Japanese popular culture are in for a rare treat, as organisers of Gundam Docks at Singapore shared details of the highly-anticipated overseas showcase. Okawara Kunio, Japan’s first mechanic designer who designed Mobile Suit Gundam, will be in Singapore to meet the fans on 6 June 2015, the exhibition’s first weekend.
Fans will also be able to meet the seiyuus and Japanese rock band, BACK-ON, on 20 June. A series of limited edition merchandise will also be available for sale in Singapore during Gundam Docks at Singapore, the iconic exhibition held from 4 to 28 June in celebration of the 35th anniversary of GUNDAM model kit and in conjunction with Singapore’s Golden Jubilee.

Fans will get a chance to meet mechanic designer Okawara Kunio in person. The highly-respected pioneer is Japan’s first mechanic design-er, and started his career in 1972. Since then, notable works include Mobile Suit Gundam, Yatterman, The Unchallengeable Daitarn 3, Fang of the Sun Dougram, and Brave Fighter Exkiser. Okawara Kunio will meet fans in Singapore on 6 June, during the official opening of the exhibition at Takashimaya.
On 20 June, fans will be able to meet the voice actors and actresses (seiyuu) from the anime, GUNDAM BUILD FIGHTERS TEY in Singapore too. Togashi Kazuki (Voice Actress for Sekai Kamiki), Uchida Yuuma (Voice Actor for Yuuma Kousaka) and Makino Yui (Voice Actress for Fumina Hoshino) will be in Singapore to meet the fans.
Japanese rock band, BACK-ON, who composed and performed three theme songs for GUNDAM BUILD FIGHTERS and GUNDAM BUILD FIGHTERS TRY, will join fans in Singa-pore on 20 June as well. They will perform on stage at Takashimaya Square. This is their debut appearance in Singapore.
In addition to the over 200 models of the Gundam series brought in for the exhibition, fans and collectors can check out a series of limited edition merchandise, some of which are ex-clusively available only in this exhibition. With over 10 booths, the limited edition merchandise include: RG 1/144 RX-78-2 GUNDAM Ver. GUNDAM DOCKS AT SINGAPORE and RG 1/144 MS-06S ZAKUⅡ Ver. GUNDAM DOCKS AT SINGAPORE. Pricing of these merchandise will be announced on a later date.
Leading up to the exhibition, members of the public can look out for a special surprise during the weekend of 30 and 31 May. A special Gundam transporter will be out on the streets to surprise lucky fans. More details on this as well as the programme line-up for the exhibition will be shared closer to date. Gundam Docks at Singapore is presented by Bandai Namco Asia, one of the leading toy makers and arcade, mobile and home video game publishers in Japan, and Takashimaya Department Store.
