The Japan Foundation Manila in cooperation with The Podium and The Center for Culinary Arts hosted the 2012 Nihongo Fiesta Wagashi Demonstration.
The demo featured wagashi masters Myojin Noriyuki, Koizumi Naoya, and Yoshihashi Keisuke as they carved, shaped, and baked classic Japanese confections from traditional ingredients.
The three chefs invited volunteers from the crowd to try their hand at some of the intricate steps involved in creating traditional Japanese sweets.
Meanwhile backstage, volunteers from the CCA worked tirelessly to put together tasting samples for the crowd of over fifty participants.
The event was a resounding success — the demos themselves were entertaining and informative, while the food was delicious and was as close as you could get to refined Kyoto sweets.
The next event on the 2012 Nihongo Fiesta calendar is the Nihongo Speech Contest and the Nihongo Quiz Bee. Both events will be on the 25th of February 2012, at The Tents at Alphaland, EDSA corner Chino Roces Extension, Magallanes, Makati City.
