File this under “Childhood Memories”: Shueisha’s Jump Square magazine out this Thursday has an announcement on the production of a new Rurouni Kenshin (aka Samurai X) anime, in time for its 15th anniversary.
After the manga wrapped up several years ago, Rurouni Kenshin’s manga-ka Watsuki Nobuhiro went on to draw other successful series such as Buso Renkin. They did, however, fail to match up to the runaway success of RK.
Recently, the release of Rurouni Kenshin’s Kanzen-ban (Perfect Collection) featured Watsuki’s stylistic updates and even complete redesigns for many of the cast members. Notable changes include Kaoru’s more mature face and new hairstyle, Aoshi’s seme-tastic eyeglasses (hubba hubba hubba), Saitou’s new lone wolf look, and the startling change in outfit and hairstyle by Kenshin’s master Hiko.
Rurouni Kenshin is one of the most memorable series of the early 2000s for many Filipino anime fans, not only because it was one of the few shows aired on terrestial and cable channels, but also because it introduced Pinoys to Japanese pop acts such as L’Arc~en~Ciel, TM Revolution, Bonny Pink, The Yellow Monkey, and a whole slew of other bands, female vocalists, and male solo artists.
It’s good to have you back, guys — looking forward to your first ep very soon!
