No thanks to the weather and our crap airport, I was unable to attend the event myself, but fortunately my BFF and flatmate Rael was in town for work and didn’t mind attending the con in my place. This is just a quick round up with none of my usual personal observations, but I hope you guys won’t mind too much.
Running from the 3rd to the 4th of July 2010 at Singapore’s Downtown East D’ Marquee, Cosfest IX is one of Singapore’s largest cosplay events. This year it hosted both the Singapore World Cosplay Summit Finals and the Grand Finals of the Asia Cosplay Meet.
Cosfest IX attracted Singapore’s best cosplayers (called “cos-ers” in local slang) as well as hordes of hobby photographers. Also at the venue were costume shops, anime merchandise booths, and doujinshi circles offering their very best works on sale. We picked up a couple of doujinshi from one of the booths — who, incidentally was also at AFA 2009; we hope to see you girls again really soon 🙂
Cosfest IX featured the Singapore Finals of the World Cosplay Summit, as well as the Anime Games World Music Competition. Winners of the former will be flying to Nagoya to compete in the TV Aichi event against winners from Australia, Europe, North America, and the rest of Asia.
The WCS Singapore leg was won by a pair of cosplayers who portrayed characters from FFXIII, while the Anime Games World Music Competition was won by Ryuusei (3rd Place), Club Nicole (2nd Place), and Quis (Winner).
Cosfest IX also featured the Grand Finals of the Asia Cosplay Meet, where contestants from Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and South Korea battled for the honor of being the first ACM Grand Champion.
The competition ended in a tie with Franky from Singapore and KOS-MOS from the Philippines sharing top honors. Franky had the crowd rooting for him after his comedic stage performance, while KOS-MOS impressed the audience with her intricate costume and massive props.
KOS-MOS — Ms. Jia Gold Bustamante, was one of three representatives from the Philippines. At just thirteen years old she has already been to a several cosplay events, and this is her biggest win to date. Congratulations to Team Philippines — you’ve made us all proud!
Thank you to 3GmBrain for the on the ground reporting and photos. Sorry I couldn’t make it to the event with you 😦
