According to ANN, Digital Manga Publishing (DMP) CEO Sasahara Hikaru has been contacting the heads of several scanlation groups to offer them the opportunity to work with the company in a profit sharing arrangement.

With DMP’s scheme, scanlation circles will be assigned to translate and edit BL manga titles whose licenses have been acquired by Sasahara’s company. In turn, they will receive a cut of each sale made via online distribution channels. The rest of the money will go to DMP, the Japanese publishing company who own the rights to the original work, and finally the manga-ka.

Sasahara said the offer was made in the light of plans by Japanese and North American publishers to stamp out scanlation circles and online manga aggregators. He thinks that the talents of the scanlation circles — with their speed and accuracy in translating not just BL manga but all other manga genres as well, should be put to good use instead of being consigned to internet oblivion.

DMP is the largest publisher of BL titles in North America; aside from DMP, they also own the June, Doki Doki, and 801 Media lines.
