J-rock DLC for Rock Band Out Soon?

Rock Band J-Rock DLC

Music gaming resource Rock Band Aide has posted about the planned release of a J-rock Rock Band DLC, two years after a supposed Rock Band: Japan game was initially announced but ultimately failed to materialise.

To put together the ten-band line-up whose tracks will be included in the DLC, Harmonix has enlisted the help of US-based J-rock website JRock Revolution. JRock Revolution ran a poll on their site, and after three weeks of voting the following artists came out on top:

1. the GazettE
2. Dir en grey
3. X JAPAN
4. MIYAVI
5. GACKT
6. An Café
7. D’espairsRay
8. Nightmare
9. L’Arc~en~Ciel
10. Versailles ~Philharmonic Quintent~

No offence to the fans who voted the above bands in, but personally I find the absence of several seminal J-rock acts such as Luna Sea, Glay, and Pierrot deathly disappointing. I also bemoan the fact that female-fronted pop-rock acts such as The High and Mighty Color and Do as Infinity, synth-based rock acts like Polysics and Boom Boom Satellites, and many other more deserving artists were left off the list.

Color me cynical but it it sounds like the list was put together by a rabid hormonal teenaged visual-kei fangirl who put more emphasis on a band’s looks than its music. If it were up to me, only two or three of the original “top ten” would be left intact, and all the other bands replaced with groups with heaps more talent than those posing pretty boys. Anyway, I’m just hoping that this is just the first of a series of Japanese DLCs, and that in the future other artists will be included as well.

P.S. Feel free to put together your own list of ten Japanese acts for the Rock Band DLC in the comments section.

Also, I wonder why they added An Cafe in that list. IMO, their music is crappy : /

TBH I do not like that list at all. The music of some of the artists listed are just plain boring and not the least bit enjoyable.

    An Cafe? For real?

LOL I approved of all of them except An Cafe. Too freaking Nyappy. XD Plus it’s kinda understandable that it’s mostly Jrock bands since you know. It’s the JROCK revolution website and that’s pretty much what’s popular over here. I guess I be a rabid hormonal teenaged visual-kei fangirl /o/ Damn proud, though.

Another way of looking at it is for the fans of those “left out” to next time work hard in making sure that their preferences gets represented the next round of voting.

In fairness to the organizers, they did issue a two-round elimination.

Likewise, in the interest of self-disclosure, I am one of those rabid hormonal visual-kei fangirl [sadly, I am no longer a teen-ager :)] who participated in the nomination. My votes went to:

    L’Arc~en~Ciel
    Dir en Grey
    D’espairsRay
    BUCK TICK
    Luna Sea
    X-Japan
    Versailles ~Philharmonic Quintent~

    Sorry for double posting.

Because of your personal lists, I’m now interested in listening to Polysics, Boom Boom Satellites and Plastic Tree? Any recommendations on which songs/albums to start on?

  11. you can start with their best of album “Polysics or Die!!!!” (although personally my favorite track of theirs was their live cover of DOUMO ARIGATO MR. ROBOTO that i saw live in SHIBUYA A/X).

as for boom boom satellites, my favorite track of theirs is “What Goes Round Comes Around” — that one’s a classic 🙂

AWESOME!! I want to buy this, and I don’t even have an X-Box360!!

They better have some Bump of Chicken in there. I’d play that song all the time.

BUMP OF CHICKEN FOR THE WIN. Seriously, that ALONE would make me wanna buy it. Just ONE SONG with Bump of Chicken!! They have such good music!!
