2015 Tamashii Convention Presents: The Shojo in Japanese Popular Culture

The wait is nearly over! This year’s Tamashii Convention is set on 28th March 2015 at Function Room 1 & Meeting Hall 2 and 3, in SMX Convention Center in Pasay City. This event is organized with pride by the De La Salle University’s Japanese Studies organization, Nihon Kenkyuu Kai.

Are you excited for a fun learning experience? Head for the Main Stage at 11AM on the event day to listen to Dr. Benjamin San Jose’s talk about The Shojo in Japanese Popular Culture: Hayao Miyazaki and its Resonance to the Philippine Social Experience.

Also called as the “Walt Disney of Japan”, Hayao Miyazaki is known for the commercial and critical success of his films. Common elements of his works include richly realized worlds and memorable female characters. This talk will present a short survey of some of his main works: namely Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, Spirited Away, and The Wind Rises.

About Dr. Benjamin San Jose
Dr. Benjamin San Jose is an Assistant Professor in the International Studies Department of De La Salle University’s College of Liberal Arts. Dr. San Jose earned his Bachelors degree at the University of the Philippines Diliman, and his post-graduate degrees at Tsukuba University in Japan.

Tamashii Convention 2015 sets the ambiance of a Japanese Summer Cultural Festival — trying to bring out the spirit of how festivals are being done in Japan with a slight mix of Japan’s ever popular pop culture. TamaCon 2015 will also be featuring its very own café, wherein guests will be able to experience the aesthetics of being in a cultural Japanese setting while enjoying a cup of tea.
