JManga to Cease Operations by 30 May 2013

Digital Manga Services Launched by Viz JManga

JManga — an online digital manga provider, has announced that it will be ceasing operations by 30th May 2013. It is now going through a refund process that will give subscribers Amazon Gift cards in lieu of their paid subscription points.

JManga was established in late 2011 as an online alternative to manga in paper form. With the primary goal to eliminate scanlation sites by offering artists interviews, video-on-demand, and official merchandise, it has fallen victim to the difficulties of the publishing industry.

Content was originally provided for them by five of the biggest publishers in Japan: Kodansha, Shogakukan, Shueisha, Futabasha, and Kadokawa. However, it is now unsure whether these manga companies will do in the wake of JManga’s closure.
