Continued from 2012 Tokyo Trip Day 12: Gundam Cafe.
We made a quick detour for breakfast (before heading for the last day of ACE) at Tsukiji — Tokyo’s famous fish market. This being a Sunday, the main fish market was closed, however the smaller shops and stalls located outside the complex were open for business.
Following the recommendation of several food and travel sites, we ended up in Sushi Zanmai — a restaurant that specializes in affordable but top-grade cuts of tuna and other fish.
We all ordered the big plates (moriawase) — this is Tokyo, and you can totally trust the chefs not to disappoint. I ended up with two pieces each of fatty tuna, medium fatty tuna, red tuna, and flash-broiled tuna, as well as a couple pieces of tuna tataki and tekkamaki.
The meal set us back JPY 3000 each (or PhP 1500), which would seem pricey to some people, but this is Japan so that is actually pretty cheap.
This little splurge was totally worth it — it’s been weeks since that meal and I am still savoring it. It’s torture actually, since I doubt I can find a place in Manila that can match Tsukiji, but I guess that just means I’ll me dropping in again — hopefully sometime soon.
