Via ANN: Square Enix will be opening its online digital manga store by the end of the year. The service will be available initially in North America and in France, and will feature titles from the Square Enix family of publications.

Square Enix (lovingly called Squeenix by its English-speaking fans) will be using its existing members site for Square Enix games as a platform for the digital download service — giving it a leg up in establishing a customer base compared to services who have to start from the ground up. Square Enix will also be using the same payment system to facilitate transactions between the customer and the manga servers.

For prospective subscriber from the Philippines, sign-ups from the territory are currently disabled, but hopefully the situation will change soon.
