Atlus Dissolved Due to Financial Woes

Atlus Dissolved Index Holdings Madhouse

Via Gamesutra: smoking hot JRPG producer Atlus will be dissolved by its mother company Index Holdings, and put directly under its control due to financial reasons.

The measure was undertaken by Index after Atlus suffered a huge loss of profit when they withdrew from the arcade-gaming business — among other reasons, according to Sankaku Complex (link NSFW). So far, there is no indication if Atlus’ current and future projects will be put in jeopardy, and Index refuses to comment on the situation until they are good and ready.

Atlus was founded in 1986, and is best known as the developer of the Shin Megami Tensei series. Index Holdings, on the other hand, was founded in 1995 as an interactive content developer and management firm. Index gained control of Atlus in 2006 as part of a stock buyout. Other than Atlus, the company also owns award-winning animation firm Madhouse.
