The E-mook Review Series: Anna Sui

Anna Sui E-mook

The Anna Sui e-mook was the second designer e-mook I purchased ever since I discovered the existence of these fun, fabulous magazines. This is only my second because I’m very picky with the e-mooks I purchase — not all e-mook giveaways are worth the money you spend on them.

Fortunately, this one was an excellent choice. Retailing at around JPY 1400 (or SGD 29 when we purchased it at Kinokuniya Liang Court in Singapore), you get a nice catalog of children’s and tweens clothing, as well as a large (huge!) plastic tote bag.

The book contains several product shots of Anna Sui’s children’s and young adults’ clothing and accessories, but does not provide a lot of other useful information unlike the YSL e-mook. The Anna Sui e-mook is also very thin, and quite frankly useless since the target market of e-mooks (single ladies with large disposable incomes) is not the target market for children’s clothing (mothers).

The freebie, however, is a different thing altogether. It is just fun, fabulous, and practical — and is easily one of the best e-mook furoku in existence. The bag is made from a heavy woven plastic, printed with a purple canvas pattern that also has stitched-on Anna Sui logos all over it. Thanks to the material the bag is waterproof and watertight, and can carry weights of up to three kilos (a Nikon D40 + a Le Sportsac clutch + a Ferrari Puma rain shell, for example).

The bag also has three side pockets to store small items like keys, breath mints, or pens — I use mine to hold all of these plus two mobile phones. Lastly, it comes with a matching zippered pouch that you can either use as a vanity hold-all or as a second wallet. The pouch is made out of the same purple printed plastic material as the bag, and is great to use together with the tote or separately with your other bags.

But that’s not to say that the bag is perfect. First of all, the seams are sewn together with a single running stitch, which makes the bag’s durability and load-carrying capabilities a little suspect. I personally would not recommend carrying a laptop or something similar with the Anna Sui tote. Also, because of the material, the bag’s corners are a little sharp, and I’ve already scratched myself in the arm several times while lugging it around carelessly.

That said, I’m still very happy with this e-mook, and would recommend it as a first purchase for new collectors, or for girls with designer fetishes but not designer paychecks.
