As linked by Khursten via Plurk, Manga Blog has news that superhero comic giant DC Comics will be shutting down its manga imprint CMX as of 1st July 2010.
The publishers have released a joint statement citing the recent economic downturn and the contraction in the American manga market as the main reasons for its closure.
The CMX line was started in 2004 by DC who hoped to diversify their publications as well as capitalize on the then booming manga licensing industry.
Some of its licensed titles included The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, From Eroica with Love, and GALS!. CMX is most famous for, or rather most notorious for its acquisition and censorship of Oh Great’s lusty school romp Tenjou Tenge.
CMX’s last batch of releases will be delivered as scheduled next month according to ANN, but after that the fate of CMX’s licensed titles is uncertain.
