Osaka To Enact Anti-BL Legislation

Osaka City Government BL Pornography

According to Sankaku Complex, Osaka is following Tokyo’s lead in creating legislation to eliminate lolicon from print, movies, television, and games by seeking to enact its own law to restrict the creation and distribution of boys love material (link NSFW!).

Based on speculation from Sankaku Complex — speculation which I share with what I little know, this new proposal appears to be a knee-jerk reaction to Tokyo’s own steps to ban lolicon, and has been put together with very little thought much like the Philippines’ own anti-hentai law.

Even if the law was designed to protect the virtues of young Osakan boys, the rationale behind this government-sanctioned control of boys love manga, anime, drama CDs, and doujinshi is very strange — considering that the material they seek to regulate is created mostly by women for women and not the aforementioned young Osakan boys.

To its target market, BL is no different from racy romance novels that include taboo themes such as vampirism, necrophilia, and bestiality (lol Twilight reference :D); the argument that it is morally reprehensible (“it turns boys gay”) clearly does not hold a whole lot of water. It also makes a scapegoat out of BL — making it the key influence for “deviant behavior” instead of other factors such as upbringing, socialization, and personality.

Thanks to Mia of World3 for the heads-up.

Gay boys will be gay, regardless of exposure to BL. (No, I haven’t clicked your link though. Dun want to shock the menfolk in the office)

  2. exactly! sexual orientation is the result of a complex web of influences which cannot and should not be attributed to a single factor. this line of reasoning is as flawed as the one that blames violent video games for the rise of criminality in modern society >.>

I can’t help but laugh that Japanese politicians are spending time just to put laws like these (hrrrghhh,in every part of the world, politicians are the most-hated people on Earth XD).

Wala!

No, no, no WAAAAAAAAYYYYYY >O<!!! *flails*

I do think that this topic is similar as to how researchers would blame media with the increasing crimes, the growing misbehaviors, and continuous decreasing morality rate in their society, but I really think that is senseless. If a country's citizens are affected by media, it means that a specific countries' citizens are not mature enough. And that is a big problem. As for that I do agree that the government needs to discipline its people. But for a country to announce a law such as this…, then *facepalm* it means that they are announcing to the whole globe that they cannot control their people. For the Philippines, who also created (I don't really know if it was approved or what) an almost the same law, it is alright to indirectly announce via law creation that they cannot control the public with what they access for people are pretty much used with the said countries politicians', but Japan? Really? *facedesk*
I think all the government officials around the globe should focus first on their economic growth…(*sighs* I'm being one-sided)

    To Tana Uzumaki:

Y'know one of the major problems of Japan is their decreasing population mainly because of the following:
1.) Suicide 2.) Money and Job 3.) Overwork 4.) (my guess) Homo sexuality 5.) BCP 6.) The recent Tsunami

But anyway, BL is almost my life so I say no to this law…!!! (Anyway, It's business to y'know… _ _'') *facepalm* a very one-sided and immature response

just a quick note: the law was passed last year; whether or not the recent tsunami occurred is immaterial.

please do not make over-reaching, baseless accusations about the declining population in japan, especially if research has proven otherwise. the most over-riding factor in the graying of japanese society is the fact that fewer women are having babies — preferring to stay single and managing their careers, or opting to have just one or two children because the japanese workplace is not a hospitable place for a working mother. thank you.
