Maria-sama ga Miteru — that last bastion of gentility, poise, and yuri doujinshi, will start filming a live action adaptation come May 2010. Teen fashion magazine model Honoka Miki has been selected to play the main protagonist Fukuzawa Yumi, while pop singer Haru plays her upperclassman (and love interest?) Ogasawara Sachiko.

MGSM takes place in a fictional all-girls Catholic boarding school called Lillian Academy (incidentally, “yuri” means “lily” in Japanese). At Lillian, upperclassmen select a protege from the new students under the school’s sœur system. The selection is formalized by the presentation and acceptance of a special rosary. “Gran sœurs” keep watch and provide guidance for their “petit sœurs”, and it is not unusual for such pairs to end up falling for each other.
