I think I’m in love: The New Pentax K-x

Pentax K-x

I love my hardy little Nikon D40. It has seen lots of abuse here and abroad, and it hasn’t eaten any of my pics yet (which had unfortunately happened with my otherwise lovely pink Sony Cybershot W80). All I’ve been wanting to buy so far is an additional zoom lens and maybe a hotshoe flash, but that was before I was e-mailed the brochure for the new Pentax K-x.

The most obvious thing about the K-x of course is its array of candy-colored bodies and matching rubberized grips. I mean black on black is sexy but it gets tiresome when everybody else has it. There are close to 100 different styles with the K-x’s twenty body colors and five grip colors; the blue-on-pink MMDA combo and the black-on-yellow BUMBLEBEE combo are making my heart all squeezy ❤

The specs are nothing to scoff at either. The 12.4 megapixel K-x kit comes with a selection of two lenses: the PENTAX-DA L18-55mmF3.5-5.6AL, and the PENTAX-DA L55-300mmF4-5.8ED. It also comes with several auto shooting modes to ease beginners into the ins and outs of SLR photography, plus live view and full HD motion capture which are features normally found only in high end SLRs.

But my favorite thing about this newfangled contraption (and this is where I stray dangerously close to fangirl territory) is the the K-x’s built-in filters, which allows you to take toy camera, tilt-shift, soft-focus, and two-color modes — without having to resort to using Photoshop. I loved this part about the K-x so much that reading the brochure felt like reading a dirty magazine ❤

The Pentax K-x is out now in Japan for JPY 90,000++, and there is no news yet of it being shipped to our shores. Even if it did reach our fine country, I don’t think I have a spare PhP 40,000 lying around waiting to be spent. I’ll go cry in my corner now 😦
