2011 J-Pop Anime Singing Contest

2011 J-Pop Anime Singing Contest

The Embassy of Japan in the Philippines is once again inviting J-pop and anisong fans to join The J-pop Anime Singing Competition for 2011.

Amateur groups composed of up to five members (with the exemption of previous winners) are invited to join; these groups can be singing groups, bands, or song-and-dance groups. Soloists are now also welcome to join!

Prospective contestants must submit a fully accomplished application form, a group photo and short write up, a demo CD containing two Japanese songs performed by the group, and finally a detailed description of their selected songs (including song title, artist name, and lyrics both in kana and romaji). For a complete list of rules, click here.

Applications can be sent in until 20th May 2011 to the Japan Information and Culture Center (JICC) Library, Embassy of Japan, 2627 Roxas Boulevard, Pasay City (MAP).

Only ten contestants from all over the Philippines will be selected for the final performance — where they may perform a capella, while playing their own instruments, or singing to an official karaoke version from a licensed CD (due to copyright reasons, the use of illegally downloaded media such as MP3s for the competition is strictly not allowed).

The Grand Finals will be held on 23rd July 2011 at the SM Megamall Event Center, Mandaluyong City.

The J-Pop and Anime Singing Contest is presented by the Embassy of Japan in cooperation with the Japan Foundation Manila. This event is also brought to us by Animation International Licensing Philippines, Center for Pop Music, Heritage Hotel, Nihongo Center Foundation, SM Cyberzone, the SM Supermalls, TOEI Animation Philippines, Yoshinoya, the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Philippines, Inc., Ajinomoto, Canon, Panasonic, Sony, Toshiba, Yakult, and Hero TV.

Pwede pa po ba ako mag join? with other group syempre,
knowing naman po na back up dancer lang po ako ng group na nanalo last year.

    thanks po!

Thanks, Ms. Rochelle and welcome back! Just a tip to all the prospective participants: if you’ll read the fine details of the contest mechanics, you’ll know that for this year’s contest, acoustic, minus-one and a capella performances are preferred.

Just wanna ask: Is singing of “vocaloid” songs fine? There are mostly no CDs for the instrumental of those kind of songs, and composers and producers, post off vocal mp3s of the songs in download-able sites like piapro.

    Thanks. 🙂

I want to ask the same question as Sig, where I am going to ask if Vocaloid songs are okay. And yes, vocaloid songs don’t have official karaoke CDs but only downloaded (hopefully legal) in the internet. It has been a great big problem for us.
And yeah, it’s our first time joining something this big. So hope you could help us. Arigatou Gozaimasu. Wishing everyone all the luck. =)

correction. It was Akano who asked the question. Gomenasai.
I also want to ask another question, how long should the performance last? any maximum or minimum time for each performance? thanks again. =)

    1. AFAIK, there are official VOCALOID albums out on the market — it is merely a question of sourcing them, and if found do the karaoke versions of the songs exist on the track listing.

one problem with using the downloads is that you are infringing on the copyright of the NICO NICO DOUGA artist who produced the track, as well as infringing on CRYPTON/INTERNET and YAMAHA’s rights to public broadcast.

there are ways of sourcing the track legally from the composers and the companies who own the rights to the software and the voicepacks, but it will be very expensive — to the tune of thousands of dollars.

my suggestion? give up on vocaloid, and stick to a track by an actual japanese artist instead 😦 sorry — but that’s the way it is.

Tanong ko lang po kung may specific Size po ba na sinabi yung sa Photo na kelangan kapag SOLOIST ka? For example, 2×2 or 1×1 only? Or any photo nlng po? Thanks po!

    Like

  28. kana is a general term for the japanese alphabet, which includes hiragana, katakana, and kanji.

i’m not sure about the photo size as well — but as long as it isn’t too small (1×1 or 100px x 100 px) or too big (5R or 1024px x 768px) you should be fine.

    1. no, i believe you have to bring the original CD — the mere act of burning a track onto a blank CD is considered piracy and is against competition rules.
